Explanation

Virus checker - Malicious programmers "Hackers" can send Viruses   Trojans  or  Worms
                         to your computer by emails, or from Websites that will cause malfunctions or
                         even stop your computer running.

Firewall          - A "wall of code" that absolutely isolates your computer from the Internet. It                          looks at each little piece of data, coming in or going out, to decide whether it                          should pass or not. There are controls in it that you set.

Test Security   - This web-site will enable you to check the security of your computer. Well                           worth the effort.

Stealth             - Programmes sent by various companies to report back to base your likes                           and dislikes - except you are NOT asked if you will allow this. Download
                          the "Optout" programme.

Ram                 - Random Access Memory. This is the "memory" that becomes active when                            you switch your computer on. Most of the programmes that it works with                            are read from your hard disc.

Cookies           - Small text files that are written to your computer containing details of sites                           visited and pictures looked at. A touch of "invasion of privacy" perhaps!
